Funding Decisions by the Education Minister | World News
Reuters, Mar. 23, Brasilia – Following media accusations that several projects negotiated by two pastors were given precedence, Brazil’s attorney general on Wednesday requested the Supreme Court to look into financing choices made by the country’s education minister.
Milton Ribeiro, the minister, denied that there had been any anomalies in the distribution of funding to local governments. Ribeiro said that he requested the federal comptroller’s office to look into any anomalies with regard to spending choices last year.
According to a statement from the attorney general’s office, the attorney general’s office asked the Supreme Court to conduct an investigation after “the publication of news reports pointing to the interference of two evangelical pastors in the (funding) process.”
In an earlier interview with CNN Brazil on Wednesday, Ribeiro stated that he had promised to confront the accusations in front of Congressmen.
In recent discussions with top lawmakers, Ribeiro added, “I made myself available.” And I requested permission to visit there in order to clarify.
